Water 4others

703 million people in the world live without access to clean water. That's nearly 1 in 11 people worldwide, or twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school and parents from earning money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.

But access to clean water and improved sanitation changes everything - especially for women and children!

That's why 4others is raising awareness about the water crisis, and facilitating cost-effective and sustainable work that eradicates the problem in targeted regions of Africa. We work with carefully-screened implementing partners to launch and sustain water projects in impoverished rural areas and urban slum communities. By providing practical assistance to individuals and groups, and financial resources to our partners, we are helping thousands of people each year improve their health through safe drinking water, improved sanitation and hygiene.

Most Recent Project

Expanding Clean Water Access at Gosu Kora Primary School

In 2017, 4others partnered with the Ambo community to bring clean water and sanitation to Gosu Kora Primary School through a new WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project. The original effort included:

  • A 2.2km pipeline extension delivering water to the school compound and surrounding community

  • Construction of two blocks of VIP latrines and handwashing stations

  • Installation of a water tank reservoir to maintain supply during periods of low pressure

💧 2025 Expansion: Meeting Growing Needs

We’re excited to share that 4others recently funded an expansion of this project! The Gosu Kora WASH Expansion adds:

  • A second water tank to meet increased water demand from a growing student body

  • Support for a new government school feeding program that provides daily meals

  • Enhanced water capacity for the school’s thriving agricultural program, which strengthens both learning and nutrition

Together, these improvements ensure that the Gosu Kora students—and their community—continue to have reliable access to clean water, better hygiene, and a healthier learning environment.

Past Projects

We have funded WASH (water, sanitation & hygiene) projects in seven countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa. We focus on providing rural communities with their first access to clean water and improved sanitation.

We work with local experts and community members to find the best sustainable solution in each place where we work, whether it's a well, a pipeline extension, a BioSand Filter, or a water purification system. And with every water point we fund, our partners coordinate sanitation and hygiene training, and establish a local Water Committee to help keep water flowing for years to come.

Our team works diligently to ensure that every dollar is accounted for and provides reports back to our donors.
