Water 4others

663 million people in the world live without access to clean water. That's nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide, or twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school and parents from earning money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.

But access to clean water and improved sanitation changes everything - especially for women and children!

That's why 4others is raising awareness about the water crisis, and facilitating cost-effective and sustainable work that eradicates the problem in targeted regions of Africa. We work with carefully-screened implementing partners to launch and sustain water projects in impoverished rural areas and urban slum communities. By providing practical assistance to individuals and groups, and financial resources to our partners, we are helping thousands of people each year improve their health through safe drinking water, improved sanitation and hygiene.

Most Recent Project

The Gosu WASH Project funded the construction of gender-specific VIP (ventilated improved pit) latrines at the church compound where the Spring of Hope children and guardians gather. It now serves over 700 people in the rural Ambo community of Ethiopia.

The latrine building has three stalls and a shower for females and three stalls and a shower for males. Both gender sections are equipped with a hand washing station. A reservoir was constructed above the building to store water for use during interruptions of supply from the city.

To insure the sustainability of the project, community leaders received appropriate training in WASH (water, sanitation & hygiene) and project maintenance.

Past Projects

We have funded WASH (water, sanitation & hygiene) projects in seven countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa. We focus on providing rural communities with their first access to clean water and improved sanitation.

We work with local experts and community members to find the best sustainable solution in each place where we work, whether it's a well, a pipeline extension, a BioSand Filter, or a water purification system. And with every water point we fund, our partners coordinate sanitation and hygiene training, and establish a local Water Committee to help keep water flowing for years to come.

Our team works diligently to ensure that every dollar is accounted for and provides reports back to our donors.
